Director’s Statement

Women’s issues and injustices, including the politics around motherhood, have historically taken a back seat in our society. Across communities of
color, community activists have brought issues of racial disparities to the forefront. Some of the issues garnering national attention have been maternal and infant mortality affecting women of color. Narratives around the complexities of motherhood are urgently needed and socially relevant especially during the wake of the pandemic which illuminated the imbalanced responsibilities that many women have had to bear.

This film adopts a raw and unromanticized portrayal of motherhood,
shedding light on the complexities faced by a woman navigating one of the most profound life transitions. My journey as an expectant mother unfolds as I bear witness to my mother’s journey as a parent and brings visibility to the often complexity between mother-daughter relationships. I explore themes of intergenerational healing, collective healing, and re-framing what it is to be a resilient woman.
